Abstract

Seismic data size can be very large. High ratio compression is needed to keep data manageable without losing the detail of the traces inside the data. PCA is well known compression technique for high rate lossy compression. However, to keep seismic data lossless another lossless compression is needed to make the error as small as possible. To make the error as small as possible, we need to make the compressed trace as similar as possible as the original data. Recovered compressed trace is distorted because of missing principal components. PCA is well known compression technique for high rate lossy compression. Fractional Fourier transform expands the time-frequency domain representation to the transition domain signal representation. Utilizing fractional order of fractional fourier transform, we wish to minimize the distortion due to compression. We apply index shifting to reduce the temporal error in fractional domain. The results shows that index shifting can reduce MSE up to 4%.
