Knowledge Management System Readiness Analysis

Abstract

This study was conducted in one of Human Resource Consulting firm in Jakarta. So far, the company does not have mechanism to document and disseminate knowledge possessed by the employees. Knowledge dissemination was done by sharing among employees and are often not documented. If an employee resigned, company will lose the employee???s knowledge. Therefore, the company has a desire to build a knowledge management system that can store employees??? knowledge and can be used by the employees. This study aims to map the company is Quinn???s level of knowledge, to know the employee understanding of the importance of knowledge sharing and make suggestions about knowledge management system design that can be implemented in the company on the future. This study used qualitative methods with focus group discussion to retrieve data, involving eight employees from each division. The result showed that the company is on the second level of Quinn???s level of knowledge, which means it has been able to apply the knowledge it has, but have not been able to act intuitively. Employees also have been aware of the importance of sharing and actively share knowledge through various existing media, but still not well documented. It is very possible to make web based knowledge management system because of the availability of the infrastructure and human resource. Web is also suitable for employees in the company who have high mobility.
