Abstract

Institutions hassles to accommodate a large of students body through the normal study period. Some of the students who passed through the normal study period due to the TPB can not passed in two semesters. The impact of these problems were human resources, classroom and operational costs. This research tries to help stakeholders in the decision to reduce the impact by looking for the factors that affecting the failure rate. The affecting factor could be determined by analyzing the courses taken and characteristic personal students. This research used Exhaustive CHAID as a method for building classification models because the method had an advantage to handle this problem. The advantage from Exhaustive CHAID were can seek the most significant predictor variable on the response variable by explore the structure dataset using the chisquare test statistic and p-value. The experiment would be tried in 6 datasets with different courses. The resulting from 6 experiments proved that the average accuracy was 85%. It can be said that the method used can be considered.

Key Word : Exhaustive CHAID, factor, TPB, failure rate
