Public Engagement through Ecopreneurship: Moving from ???Recyclable to Marketable???

Abstract

The paper???s aim is to demonstrate how Gemricik ??? a society movement in Bandung city ??? can more effectively partner with the city residents around Cikapundung River under the rubric of ecopreneurship. An analysis of actual cases of collaboration between such parties informs a suggested public engagement approach. A structured approach of engagement through ???the triple drivers of ecopreneurship??? towards ecopreneurial society is possible if Gemricik movement understand how to effectively involve the city residents in their work, which provides opportunities for future economic development. The research objective was achieved by a qualitative design, where data is collected by distributing open-ended structured surveys to the people of Gemricik and the city residents around Cikapundung River. The ultimate aim is to gain insights for policy makers and educators into ways to foster ecopreneurship in the context of waste recycling as a commercial business opportunity that can create wealth to the city residents around Cikapundung River, yet at the same time produce net environmental gains.
